Welcome to Expansion 4! It's been a long time coming but we have some stuff to show for it I swear! As with every expansion, we'll need to do some additional patches after this one to adjust numbers around and sort out any potential bugs.

Stay patient and we'll try to make things as good as possible.

Overall Changes

Final Damage

Final damage is something that never really had much value for a lot of Project Duck's lifespan. We're planning on changing that this expansion.

Previously, with each gear set coming out, the final damage cap increased a decent amount. However, in the past, you would be able to hit 100% FD without any 3rd stat plates when you hit +20 equipment and wore the newest plates. This time, we're going to require you to wear 3rd stat FD plate(s) to reach 100% even at max enhanced gear.

The final damage cap for EXP4 has been increased: 5767 --> 9444

Power Hour

A brand new system that allows grants drop bonuses at different times of the day. We have them set up to accommodate for roughly all times zones.

Power Hour influences players to play specific types of content. Here's how it works:

  1. There are two rotations of times (A and B). They are slightly offset to provide a slightly better experience for everyone
  2. Rotation A and B switch daily
  3. When Power Hour is active, drop rate in the specified type is increased by 50%
  4. Power Hour of a random content type is applied at each time slot
  5. Power Hour only applies to EXP4 content
  6. Nests and dungeons can NOT have Power Hour at the same time
  7. Raids can have Power Hour at the same time as nests/dungeons
  8. Power hour applies to all EXP4 content within a certain type (nest Power Hour provides a drop bonus to all EXP4 nests)
  9. Power Hour applies when entering the nest, NOT clearing
  10. Power Hour only applies to loot obtained from chests

Dynamic Balance

Balancing on the fly

We are now able to adjust the damage of classes live without having to restart the server. This also allows us to buff certain classes in certain content. This means that if we wanted to, we could buff Oracle Elder and only in RuDN8.

Dynamic balance is more of a tool for us developers rather than a feature that players get to control.

"Cheater" Mods

Stop cheating and ignoring mechanics! Prevents mods that allow players to ignore certain mechanics in-game.

We were turning a blind eye to these mods initially. However, we decided to take a stronger stance on these mods. Mods that nullify or trivialize mechanics will no longer be allowed.

  • Project Duck now detects illegal mods and prevents you from using them by not allowing the game to start until they're removed

This does not mean that mods that assist gameplay are no longer allowed (for example: Ice Dragon Nest Vahrcore clock mod). This change was made specifically targeting the removal of certain mechanics altogether (for example: removing the snowstorms/blizzards in Ice Dragon Nest Vahrcore).

There's a big difference between those two. One assists players, the other nullifies a mechanic.

This will also continue to be in effect in the future when we decide to make more mechanics that may use specific effects that could otherwise be modded out (looking at you Rune Dragon Nest Vahrcore).

Legacy Content

Many updates were made to accommodate the new progression. We also added a new buff that increases all players' Final Damage in old content to compensate for the increase in the Final Damage cap.

For the new content we did a lot of modernization! We recommend that you at least get the Astral Defensive Crest before going into the nests. They're gonna hit hard!

These changes speed up the dungeons. Some of these changes include:

  • Speeding up the rate of which all the monsters spawn
  • Some gates open a lot faster
  • Monsters spawn at the same time rather than at intervals
  • Reduced number of times or added cooldowns and limits to annoying mechanics that stall time
  • Golden Goblin has actually good drops!

Astral Extinction Equipment

The core differences this time is that equipping this gear grants you max DEF and MDEF. From now on, we're going to be balancing content purely on HP values rather than DEF, MDEF, and HP. This has no effect on damage reduction buffs. Those are still relevant. Another difference is that enhancing Astral Extinction grants HP. These can be obtained by using Starbursts as tuners.

These are the tuner items used to change Midnight Frost to Astral Extinction! As usual, you're going to need to enhance your Midnight Frost to +20 or above to use this item.

As usual there are three types of "bursts." These are Sparkling Starburst, Luminant Starburst, Irradiant Starbursts

  • Enhancing Life-Giving gems grant a lot more HP. This is where a majority of your bulkiness comes from in EXP4. Be sure to enhance these before going into Rune Dragon Nest if you don't want to take a beating

Astral Crests

Adorned and Sturdy Talismans are merged into one type of crest (Defensive) that gives both MDEF and DEF

Extinction Talismans

Adorned and Sturdy talismans are merged into one type of talisman (Defensive) that gives VIT% and HP%

Void Talismans

Void Talismans are a brand new type of talisman that are available in Expansion 4. These are talismans that will replace the Adorned Talisman slot

These talismans have three focused form factors. They come in Savage (STR), Elusive (AGI), and Arcane (INT) focused. These talismans have flat stats before they "roll" for potentials. Each one has several options but they can only roll stats based on a specific set of rules.

  1. You always receive 3 random stat rolls
  2. You cannot roll the same stat multiple times
  3. Rolls for some stats have a high and low
  4. Guaranteed to have at least one high statline per roll
  5. Guaranteed to get 2 damage stats and 1 defensive stat
  6. You can't get incompatible stats (STR + INT, or AGI + MDMG for example)
  7. You can't get more than one mainstat (STR + INT, or STR + AGI for example)

The stats on the Void Talismans are pretty sizeable. They were designed to be something you work on for the long term as a gold sink to some extent.

Vahrein to Vahrtite and Vahrtite Point

Vahreins is the most common way for players to store their gold. This has caused a lot of problems though (STOP MASS SELLING THEM AHEM).

We're switching over to a new currency format. You can now convert your Vahrein to Vahrtite. Vahrtites are worth 1,000 gold (with Golden Goose VIP). These Vahrtite coins can only stacked up to 100. This may seem like a major drawback as Vahrein could be stacked to 999, but this resolves some issues for us.

  1. Players can no longer accidentally sell more coins than what would cause a gold overflow (giving you back less gold than you actually sold for)
  2. Players can calculate the amount of gold they have a lot easier (2875g wasn't really a friendly number to work with)

Pouch of Vahrtite

Since Vahrtite coins can only stack up to 100, we also added the Pouch of Vahrtite. These function similarly to the Dreams of Vahrein. However, you can open the Pouch of Vahrtite which gives 10 Vahrtite. This means each pouch is worth 10,000 gold. Pouches of Vahrtite have the following attributes:

  • Cannot be sold
  • Cannot be destroyed
  • Can be traded
  • Stacked up to 1000

This makes the pouches a lot more secure for storing gold than previous methods. However, we took one more step further...

Vahrtite Points

Seek treasure

Vahrtite points are a new point that can be exchanged for at the Marketplace NPC Erwin. Here, you can exchange your gold, Vahrein, and Vahrtite for Vahrtite Points. Vahrtite Points are shared across ALL of your characters.

  • Vahrtite to Vahrtite Points exchanges at 1:1
  • Gold to Vahrtite Points exchanges at 1000:1

It may be confusing to read for some people initially, but you can just read your Vahrtite Points with a K at the end to represent thousand and it becomes a lot easier.

2,881 Vahrtite Points = 2,881,000 gold

The cost to purchase Vahrtite Points with gold is calculated assuming you have Golden Goose VIP. Please purchase Golden Goose VIP before you do any exchanges so you don't lose out on money for the exchange. We will not refund you if you make this mistake.

Another advantage to having Vahrtite Points is that it is the best way to control the amount of gold in your inventory without keeping it as a item in your inventory like Vahrein, Vahrtite, or even Pouch of Vahrtite. Since this is also shared across all character, you can easily transfer gold without using the storage NPC.

You can use this NPC to convert all your Vahrein after patch for easy storage.

Shop Changes

A lot of became useless after we removed a large chunk of early game progression. This means that a lot of the exchange items in various shops had to be removed as well. Some key items have been left in the shops to help players in the early game easily transition to the new progression path.

Considering buffing dmg)

Near Future Changes

Many of the legacy items in shops and other exchanges will be removed after some time. We're keeping them in the game for some time to give people time to do their exchanges before it is no longer possible.

We'll be keeping an eye out and monitoring feedback on the changes (especially the drop/cost requirements for new equipment).

From here, we'll also be continuing work on class reworks as most of the content development is out of the way for now.

We'll also add a new Beserk difficulty soon with a new line of cosmetics.

Rune Dragon First Unique Clears

Easy mode

Clear Rune Dragon Nest at least once within the first 2 weeks of first clear

Rules

  1. Players who participated in multiple clears will not be eligible for multiple rewards
  2. Clears as a result of bugs/exploits will be disqualified
  3. Include a screenshot of players with the chest rewards in your submission
  4. Submission must be posted in the submission channel and tag all participating players' IGNs in Discord
  5. Submissions must be posted within the event period

Duration

After maintenance - 2 weeks from first clear

For example: If team A clears on April 3rd, everyone else has until April 17 to be eligible for rewards
